Printing
• Think twice before printing. • Ask yourself if you really need to print a hard copy or if the electronic version will suffice. • Don't print out emails, unless you absolutely have to. • Avoid printing something in the event that you may read it sometime. Only print it if you need to. • Add in a note at the bottom of your emails such as: • If you print a document see if you can share it, instead of printing several documents. • Unnecessary printing is a waste of paper, ink and electricity. • When you print specify the pages you want in the Page Range so you only print what you need. • Adjust the page margins to fit more onto one page. • If you need to print a hard copy of an email: • Check the number of pages you are printing versus what you actually need. • You may only need one paragraph in a mail but land up printing pages of mails that were below the part needed. Those pages get thrown away. (If you do so, at least be sure to recycle them.) • Printing the disclaimers is a waste of paper. • To print an email - in Print specify current page or Pages: 1 in Page Range. • If you need to print a hard copy of a webpage: • Copy and paste only what you need into a word document so that less ink is used. • Check print preview to see the contents on each page and if it's what you need. Invitations • Send electronic invitations instead of paper or plastic invitations. • If you are creating paper invitations use recycled paper. Notes • Use a small book as a memory book - instead of post-its (because of the sticky part they can't be recycled) - to jot down things you need to do. • (Once it's full it can serve as a diary for you or the whole book can go into recycling.) Junk Mail • In the same way that you can opt out of receiving emails or smses so too can you stop receiving junk mail that invariably gets thrown away. • Contact The Direct Marketing Association of South Africa (DMASA)to add your details to the Don't Contact Me list. • Contact the call centre on or log on to www.dmasa.org. • Call the company that sends you junk mail and ask to be removed from the mailing list. Donations • If you make a donation monthly and you are sent a thank you letter monthly call them and ask to receive the letter and tax invoice once a year. (Your donation money is then not being wasted on administration fees.) On-Line Accounts • Instead of receiving your accounts in paper format, request that your accounts be sent electronically. Remember to recycle all your paper. See recycling |
